To identify which area of your home relates to which aspect of your life you need to understand the bagua. The bagua is always laid so that the front door opens into the knowledge, career or benefactors area. Most of the energy enters your property through the front door - the mouth of chi - so this is your starting point. Your front door is the one that the postman uses and visitors automatically come to.
The bagua can be applied to any floor of your house, business, flat or single room. It is most important to apply it to the entire floor but it can also be applied to individual rooms within your home. This is particularly the case when dealing with children's rooms as they can be thought of as their own homes.
The bagua can be ‘stretched’ to fit any shaped property but all the areas must still be in proportion to each other. Do not expect each of your rooms to fit neatly into each section of the bagua. Rooms will often belong to more than one area.
If your front door is in the centre of your property it opens into the Career Area.
Most of the energy or opportunity in the house comes in through the front door so the career area is always found near the entrance to your property. Even if the front door opens in a different area it will still influence your career, but there will be a combined influence. This area relates to more than just your job; it represents your vocation, your life path.
If your front door is on the left of your property it opens into the Knowledge Area.
This is a white earth area and it relates to the 'earth' of porcelain. It is like a mountain with a hard veneer and softness deep inside, such that it symoblises a container. The knowledge area relates to the hours between 1am and 4am, the time of stillness before dawn has begun, and the time when revolution and change are carefully plotted. It is an area where you can realise what you want and what is happening in your life. It also relates to inner knowledge.
If your front door is on the right or your property it opens into the Benefactors Area.
This area belongs to the metal element and to steel, crystal and diamonds. It relates to friends who will support you during times of need. It also relates to charity and travel. It is the most masculine part of the house. It relates to autumn when all the leaves have gone and all the crops have been gathered. It is a time of contraction and discipline because now the crops have been harvested they must last until the next season.
When you apply the bagua to your upper floors take the top of the stairs as the mouth of chi. Stand on the top stair and mentally position the bagua on the wall behind you (do not get carried away and step back). However this is not a rule etched in stone, in some houses the energy on upper floors repeats the same energy as the ground
If your property is NOT perfectly square or rectangular you will have a missing OR extended area. This example shows a missing Wealth Area.
In this property the Relationship Area has been extended.
If you live in a flat the main entrance will have an influence but lay the bagua from your own front door.
The bagua can be applied to each floor of your home (the ground floor is the most fundamental) and also to each room and indeed to each object, for example the top left corner of your desk will be the wealth area.

Missing or Extended Areas
Mentally draw a line down the centre of your home. Or draw a plan and mark in pencil. If the area that is missing is equal or less than half of the total external wall measurement it is a missing area. If however, the missing area is greater than half of the total external wall measurement then you have an extended area.
